The EURO-GBD-SE project aims at assessing the potential for reduction of health inequalities in Europe, by identifying the determinants and risk factors associated with variations in the magnitude of health inequalities between European countries and use these measures to develop counterfactual scenarios.
Europe offers excellent opportunities for such analyses because data on inequalities in mortality, morbidity and risk factors are available in many countries, European welfare systems differ substantially and because variations of health inequalities are already found.
The project will also present updated data on socioeconomic inequalities in mortality, self-reported morbidity, and risk factors for the period 2000-2005 in all European Union countries with available and comparable data.

The EURO-GBD-SE project started as collaboration with the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) group. We will apply their methodologies and updated analyses of the impact of risk factors on specific diseases in our estimates.
The EURO-GBD-SE project will thus provide a crucial European contribution to the GBD2005 study, and thereby contributing to worldwide knowledge on how to explain and reduce health inequalities.
The EURO-GBD-SE project has been supported and co-funded by the European Community.
